Avena sativa plant, better known as the oat plant, has been used for centuries as both a food and a herb. It is the green leafy parts of the oat plant which are used to make our Avena sativa tincture, rather than oat grain which is commonly used as food.
Oats have been used traditionally as a nerve tonic for hundreds of years. It is the seed which is used medicinally as well as for food
What is Avena Sativa?
Avena sativa herb contains a number of plant chemicals including a substance known as gramine. The amount of these plant substances is highest just as the Avena sativa plant is about to break into flower and the seeds begin to form. We use freshly harvested, organically grown Avena sativa to produce this tincture.
How it works
Fresh oat seed contains high levels of vitamin B, minerals and other nutrients. These are recognised to be important and beneficial for the proper functioning of the nervous system. Oats contain a group of substances which have a calming effect on the nervous system, the most active of which, gramine, has been shown to relax muscles. The balance of constituents present in oat seed probably accounts for the restorative benefits in depression, states of debility and exhaustion — and the traditional use as a nerve tonic.
Some researchers have found that oats can be beneficial for those who are trying to overcome the symptoms of withdrawal from alcohol and drugs.
Additional advice: No restrictions on use are known.
