What is Spilanthes?
Spilanthes has attractive bronzy, dark green leaves which are not only edible but have also been used in traditional medicine for many centuries.
It is native to the tropics of Brazil but can be grown in various parts of the world – including Switzerland where A.Vogel cultivates this plant for use in our Spilanthes tincture.
Spilanthes originates from South America and grows in wet, damp places in temperate climates. It is a member of the Asteraceae family and has been traditionally used for the external treatment of fungal skin infections. How it works: Research has confirmed the antifungal activity of Spilanthes, especially against the Trichophyton species of fungi responsible for athlete’s foot infections. Its precise mechansim of action has not yet been elucidated.
