Super vitamin with numerous health benefits
Many people in the northern hemisphere are deficient in vitamin D due to the lack of sunlight. Deficiency appears to have become so commonplace that, at the advice of the Scientific Advisory Committee on Nutrition, the UK Government recommends anyone over a year old should consume 10 micrograms (400iu) of vitamin D daily in order to protect bone and muscle health. This includes pregnant and breastfeeding women, children and the elderly. Office workers may also be susceptible to deficiency due to the amount of time spent indoors.
Vitamin D, also known as the sunshine vitamin, is normally produced in the skin after exposure to the sun. It has numerous health benefits, including contributing to normal blood calcium levels, maintenance of normal bones, teeth, muscles, as well as immune function.
